Celebrating Len Dalton Extraordinaire

November 1, 1930 - April 17, 2014

Kaye called the evening of April 17th to let us know that Len passed away around midnight that morning.  She said that Len was very

much at peace and passed quietly.  Please keep Kaye and their family in your prayers. If you call Kaye, please know she may not be able to answer the call immediately, but appreciates each and everyone of us.

Len Dalton was deeply loved and respected by so many people across North America and overseas even though most never had the opportunity to meet him in person.  Len will be remembered for his faith, his ingenuous nature, his sincere interest and compassion for people and life, his ability to delight young and old with his storytelling, and his contributions to the working cow dog. Len developed his own line of cattle dogs, and a way to train them, and you know what, it worked! Numbers don't lie. We are forever grateful and our lives enriched that our paths crossed with this wonderful soul.  See you on the trail, my friend.

Mail cards to 4436 Hwy 71, Campti, LA 71411

If you can, take the time to include a personal story about Len! Don't just send the cards now, send another in a few weeks, again in a few months.

If you are thinking of something to acknowledge or honor Len in lieu of flowers, here are some thoughts: Make a dedication or donation that will reflect Len's life or your relationship with him, a boy's ranch was mentioned, don't forget Len's church, donation toward dog food or vet bills for the small number of dogs remaining in Kaye's kennel, donate a roll of stamps for any mailings the family will have, and the list goes on.  And if you have to send flowers, send them later on in the form of a plant that Kaye could use in the yard or home.  Speaking of yard, if you live close by, a yard mowing or two would be great.  Put on your thinking hats, there are lots more thoughtful acts of caring and kindness - when you think something, let us know and we'll add to the list. We're all in this together.  Above all, bless the family in prayer, often.

CDC Breeders

CDC Breeders are using and raising purebred Border Collies, Kelpies and some cross-bred dogs in cattle operations across the United States.  If they, themselves, are not running cattle, they use their dogs on a regular basis for the industry.

Trainers and Training Aids

These people are long-standing members of the working ranch dog community.  Some have training videos and/or books for sale.

The Associations listed here are devoted to the development and presentation of working cattle dogs.  Their trials consist only of cattle work.  These trials score on point and time only and are not affiliated with any professional handler or breed organizations.

This is the trade publication for owners and handlers of working stock dogs.  This magazine focuses on working dogs of all breeds. Dogs on farms and ranches seriously earning their keep are the primary subject matter. Trials are covered also, as they are a showcase for the working stockdog.

CDC Stories
